THE Top 10 Crochet Designers to Follow on Instagram

Instagram is the perfect social media platform to follow your favorite fiber artists. It is inspiring to see pictures pop up on the feed of yarn turning into fun items. Or to see fun, behind the scenes, “day-in-the-life” type videos in their stories. But you already know that! Instagram isn’t new and I am sure you already could name a list of your favorites.

But have you seen these 10 artists?! I want to share with you my favorite crochet designers that I found through Instagram. Seriously, you want to stick around for this. There is so much inspiration to absorb in this post.

These are not listed in any particular order, just as they came to me. So let’s get to it! I hope you leave today with at least one new designer to follow on Instagram who motivates you and adds value to your busy day.

@sewrella – Ashleigh Kiser

Snapshot from Ashleigh’s Instagram account

Ashleigh is the genius behind Sewrella. She is an incredible businesswoman. I found her blog (sewrella.com) over a year ago and started following her on Instagram shortly after. And let me tell you, she is such an inspiration.

So Ashleigh got her start in the blogging atmosphere in 2015. She was pregnant at the time, on early maternity leave from her job at a coffee shop. Both she and her husband were living at her parent’s home as well. On a whim, she started a free blog so she could share the cute items she was crocheting for her unborn son. She had hopes that she could make a little extra money for groceries through the blog so she could stay home with her baby. And as far as I know, she has never held a “regular” job since.

Sewrella is a thriving blog with hundreds of posts that include patterns, tips and tutorials. And it’s great because she doesn’t pigeonhole herself as just a crocheter because she has knitting patterns as well. But she had to make it on my list!

And, to illustrate further what a great businesswoman she is, she expanded into indie yarn dyeing a little while ago. That business is called Handmade Home Fibers and you can find that by going to handmadehomefibers.com. Just be aware, her monthly collections sell out in no time.

Oh yeah, and did I mention she is coming out with a course this year? 2020 is the year she is releasing a product to teach others how to make yarn crafts their career in blogging.

Why You Need to Follow @sewrella

  • She shares behind the scenes videos of her mom life via Instagram stories. So you get to see her adorable son Parker!
  • She shares her love for children’s books. And even has a pattern collection called Books & Blankets where she makes baby blankets and pairs them with a book. Great baby shower gift idea!
  • She shares her photo shoots of upcoming patterns.
  • Her Instagram is full of inspiring projects that she made with beginners in mind.
  • She uses her own hand dyed yarn for projects, which gives you a reason to go check out more beautiful yarn to covet.
  • She shares color moods which make you want to drool they are so pretty.
  • She shares her son’s bento box lunches that look amazing! Oh, and she sometimes shares new snacks she’s come across. And she always links them. They always look so yummy!

@lehandmade – Emilie Roter

Snapshot from Emilie’s Instagram account

Emilie is a Frenchwoman who lives in Madrid. She is into knitting and crochet design. And fun fact, she knows three languages: French, Spanish and English. The following quote was pulled from her blog, and it speaks to her Instagram page as well.

Welcome to my little world of wool, cotton and needles of all kinds!

Emilie Roter

Throughout her posts, it is obvious she is passionate about fiber. Pictures are composed of her designs, finished projects by other designers, skeins of yarn, and WIPs. She must always have at least one project going on.

Now, I haven’t been following her long, but I do have a few reasons for you to go check out her Instagram page.

Why You Need to Follow @lehandmade

  • I like the aesthetic of her pictures. They are dark and moody.
  • The pop of color amongst her gray, black and cream tones is on point.

@knitsnknotswpg – Janine Myska

Snapshot from Janine’s Instagram account

I’ll admit, this is not the first time I have mentioned Janine on here. She has a crochet earring pattern that is easy and fun that I listed on another article ______. But what can I say? She is someone you need to know about because she is killing it!

Janine is a young woman in her mid-twenties who discovered knitting and crochet through YouTube in 2016. Her journey with the fiber arts started when she began to sell her finished products. She went to markets, sold online, and even opened up a studio for local customers. As her love for crochet evolved, she quit selling finished products and began working on her own designs. And now she is a full-time designer.

I learned to crochet in high school and learned to knit in college. Crochet holds a special place in my heart. When I first learned to crochet, I was disappointed with the pattern selection out there. I wanted to make shirts and sweaters and even a pair of shorts, but all I could find were knitting patterns for those types of items. Janine’s designs are something I wish I had found back then or had come up with myself. You have to check her out!

Why You Need to Follow @knitsnknotswpg

  • She is so honest about the design’s she is working on. She will show progress videos, and throughout them she will share hiccups with the design or mistakes during the pattern testing.
  • Crochet garment patterns that look modern and chic are hard to come by. Janine makes it happen though! And she loves sharing her photos of all her patterns.
  • She shares cute stories with her 2 huskies. You can get your daily dose of doggy cuteness!
  • She is coming out with a new collection in 2020. And the theme is FRIENDS. Can’t wait to see what she comes up with! I hope she shares a few teasers before it releases.
  • Neutral tones. Need I say more? Her posts are so aesthetically pleasing and follow her brand perfectly.

I haven’t followed Teresa for long, but any time she posts, I am in awe of the photos. Her projects look so fun and easy. You can definitely tell she is creative. I mean, look at those ear muffs. And a ton of her projects are crochet.

She also just came out with a book, Modern Crochet. I haven’t had a chance to get a copy yet, but it is on my wish list. I have seen others posting finished projects that came from patterns in the book. They look so fun! Every pattern is modern and looks like you could tailor it to fit your own colors. But I just can’t get enough of those white tones with a pop of black.

@the.hook.nook – Jessica Carey

Snapshot from Jessica’s Instagram account

Like many of us, Jessica is a self-taught crocheter who learned from the wonderful world of YouTube. She began her crochet journey by making items for her young daughter, in the hopes that as she grew up, would appreciate the handmade gifts. From there she began selling her finished projects and opened an Etsy shop in 2012.

In 2016, she decided to close her shop and began selling her pattern designs instead. Then she began working for different yarn brands and did commissioned designs for them. And now she has her own line of yarn and crochet supplies sold at Joann stores.

Her story is inspiring. And I hope you find her work as beautiful as I do.

  • She has exquisite photos of her projects and collaborations.

@twoofwands – Alexandra Tavel

Snapshot from Alexandra’s Instagram account

Alexandra is a knitwear designer based out of New York City. Now, the majority of her patterns are knit, however, she does have several crochet patterns too. And her work is stunning.

I found Two of Wands through Pinterest awhile back. There was a free pattern listed for a sweater that looked really comfortable and I wanted to try my hand at knitting. The pattern took me to her website and I found a plethora of even more great designs. A few of which are crochet.

Alexandra set up her business, Two of Wands, back in 2014. Interestingly enough, her logo came from getting her tarot cards read to her after she climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, not a pair of knitting needles. But ever since she started her business, her work has blown up.

Designs by Alexandra are influenced by the places she has traveled. Each piece is functional, chic, unique and stylish. And some of her patterns are even made into kits sold through Lion Brand. A convenient way to get all the materials and pattern in one place.

A fun project she started with Lion Brand recently is called “Traveling Afghans.” Designers that were chosen for this project create a 10×10 inch granny square and send it off to the next designer. Each pattern used for the square is then published and made free for anyone who wants to join the project and make their own afghan. The best part is, there are two separate afghans, one crochet and one knit.

If you haven’t heard of this legend in the fiber community yet, definitely take a look. She is one inspiring woman.

Why You Need to Follow @twoofwands

  • Her photos are stunning and always consist of a project that has been released.
  • She is super generous. She has several tutorials that she shares on Instagram. I actually got gift wrapping ideas from her that I used on my Christmas presents.

  • Seeing all of her knit patterns may inspire you to try something new! Her patterns are beautiful and I was inspired to pick up a pair of knitting needles even though I never had before.
  • She announces her pattern suites in her stories. Pattern suites are a group of about five patterns listed for a discounted price. And there is usually a separate suite for crochet and knit.
  • Watch her stories for updates on the Traveling Afghans pattern series. It’s great to see all the unique designs that are being made.
