6 Free, Quick & Easy Crochet Patterns for Halloween Decorations

I want to have friends over this year for a little Halloween themed dinner, so I thought it would be fun to hunt down handmade Halloween decorations. Typically I lean more towards fall decorations that fit the whole season, rather than wild and spooky decor that fits just the month of October.

I hunted down 6 FREE crochet patterns for Halloween decorations that are quick, easy and cute. It’s already the middle of October, so I need something quick to work up, which means I can also use up my stash in the process. But I also wanted cutesy looking Halloween decorations so as not to spook anyone. I hope you are inspired to make at least one of these patterns linked below!

Frankenstein Candy Bowl, by A Crocheted Simplicity

This pattern is perfect if you have children in your home (even if you don’t…I’m over 25 and think it’s cute!). The crocheted version of Frankenstein’s monster is adorable, not terrifying, which is a feature I like.

The details of this pattern are impeccable. The open mouth gives a nice feature, almost like the monster is eating all the candy. And reinforcing the sides and bottom of the bucket with plastic canvas is genius. The bucket will be able to maintain its shape and withstand all the hands inside grabbing the candy. Below are some of the features I like about this pattern.

  • Uses worsted weight yarn + reinforced by plastic canvas

Witch Wreath by Pippin Poppycock

The witch wreath looks to be inspired by the movie The Wizard of Oz. In the movie, the house Dorothy was in during the tornado lands on the wicked witch. All you can see are the witches legs with the striped tights and ruby slippers. This wreath gives a similar vibe.

This pattern is great because the designer wrote the pattern as a pdf, so it is more concise and easier to follow than a blog post. I really appreciate that effort! The pattern also labels each part of the pattern clearly and walks you through the process of making the wreath. First you will make the boots, which will turn into the legs. Then you will crochet a flat rectangular piece that gets sewn onto the foam ring. Finally, the pattern details how to crochet the hat. Once you have all of your pieces, you sew then together and voila, you have a wreath to hang on your door. Take a look at the main characteristics of this pattern below.

Hocus Pocus Crochet Pillow by Key

If you have ever seen the movie Hocus Pocus then you will no doubt understand this pillow. If you haven’t, I suggest you go watch it! It is a great family-friendly Halloween movie. I would classify this movie as my favorite in terms of Halloween, so maybe that is the reason for this pillow catching my eye!

The pillow was inspired by the movie, which features the Sanderson sisters who are witches. They each sport different hairstyles and have vastly different personalities. This pillow really captures that aspect of the movie. And I really appreciate the effort that went into this pillow. Below are some of the features this pattern has to offer.

Halloween Pumpkin by Yarn + Chai

Jack-o-lanterns are a classic decoration for fall and/or Halloween, whether they are carved by hand in real pumpkins or crocheted with yarn. The Halloween Pumpkin pattern is no exception.

My favorite characteristic of this pattern is the way the orange slightly pops through the black yarn to make it look like a candle is flickering inside. Also, the shaping technique is unique. Be sure to check out this pattern and all the photos that guide you through the process. Definitely worth looking at. I have highlighted a few of the noteworthy qualities of this pattern below.

AUNT LYDIA’S HALLOWEEN TREE OF SPOOKINESS by Cristina Mershon

This pattern, or should I say patterns, are the most adorable Halloween themed amigurumi! It’s amazing, there are 4 patterns included in a single pdf. The design is by Cristina Mershon, but was published for free by Yarnspirations. You will get a download from their website.

I really love the idea of these ghost ornaments. They could be used standalone as cute decor on a shelf or table, or they could be placed on a tree or tree branches (as the pattern name suggests) and used as a centerpiece or larger room decoration. Highly recommend checking out the pattern or at the very least the main elements of this pattern below.

Halloween Party Banner by Sahrit Freud-Weinstein

These patterns come in a single pdf as a download from Yarnspirations. It includes the 3 patterns for a bat, pumpkin and skull. They are flat motifs with some 3D detailing.

These patterns are the perfect Halloween decor because you can make them the statement piece or keep them subtle. The neon colors pop on the black webbing in the photo and really catch your attention. But on the otherhand, I saw someone’s project on Ravelry where they put their banner at the top of their window for a subtle decoration. Either looks great, so be sure to check out the main features below and download a free copy for yourself.
